CTP: ETM 7th vs 8th edition — what changed and which to study

CTP: ETM 7th vs 8th edition — what changed and which to study

If you’re prepping for the CTP and you’re unsure whether to buy the 7th or 8th edition of Essentials of Treasury Management (ETM), here’s the short answer: study the 8th edition (ETM8).

What’s happening: AFP has moved its core CTP text to the 8th edition, described as “newly reorganized” and carrying the 2026–2028 CTP Exam Knowledge Domains. AFP’s current prep materials, its 2026B intensive review course, and its body-of-knowledge page all reference ETM8.

One source of confusion: AFP’s older “About the Exam” page still mentions the 7th edition in places. That page appears to be lagging the transition — the live prep ecosystem has moved to ETM8 for the current cycle. (If in doubt, confirm directly with AFP before you buy.)

What the move means for you

●        Buy ETM8, not a discounted 7th-edition copy — the knowledge domains and organization have changed.

●        If you already own ETM7, you can still learn the fundamentals from it, but map your study to the 2026–2028 domains and plug gaps with current AFP materials.

●        Pricing: ETM8 is $195 for AFP members, $295 for non-members.

A quick CTP exam refresher: 170 questions (150 scored), scaled scoring 200–500 with 300 to pass. The next window (2026B) tests Dec 1, 2026 – Jan 31, 2027 — final application Oct 28, 2026.

Sources / accuracy: AFP product/catalog, 2026B review course, and body-of-knowledge pages. ETM8’s exact “effective exam date” is not stated verbatim by AFP — confirm with AFP before publishing the edition claim.
