Certified Treasury Professional (CTP)

What is the CTP certification (Certified Treasury Professional)?

I keep seeing CTP mentioned in treasury job postings but I'm not totally clear on what it is. Can someone give me the CTP full form and the basics — who runs it, what it covers, and whether it's a course or just an exam? Trying to figure out if it's the right credential for a corporate treasury path.

Worth knowing there's an experience requirement to earn it — it's aimed at people already working in or adjacent to treasury, not fresh grads with zero experience. You can still study while you build the years. It's a professional designation more than an entry-level cert.

To add on content — it covers corporate liquidity and working capital, capital markets and funding, treasury operations, financial risk management, and the technology side (TMS, payments, etc). Pretty comprehensive of what an actual treasury team does. It's US-centric in framing but I've seen it valued in treasury roles internationally too.

CTP is Certified Treasury Professional. It's run by the AFP, the Association for Financial Professionals. It's not a course you take, it's a single certification exam — 170 multiple-choice questions. The main text everyone studies from is Essentials of Treasury Management, which the AFP publishes. If you want to be seen as a serious corporate treasury person in the US, it's the credential.
