India finance job market in 2026

Every LinkedIn post and news article makes it sound like india finance jobs 2026 is an unstoppable boom — GCCs everywhere, fintech hiring, endless demand. But I'm actually job hunting right now and it feels a lot more competitive and picky than the hype suggests. Is the market genuinely strong, or is it strong only if you have the exact right skills? Reality checks welcome.

Honestly the hiring is real but slower and more deliberate than 2021-22. More interview rounds, more assessments, more ghosting. It's an employer's market for junior roles and a candidate's market for specialized senior ones. Tailor your expectations to which bucket you're in.

Entry-level and generic accounting is crowded — that's the part the headlines gloss over. Where it's actually hot: anyone with data skills (SQL, Power BI), a global cert (CPA/ACCA/CFA), or niche expertise like US tax, IFRS, or FP&A modeling. If you're in that band you'll get calls. If you're a generalist you're competing with thousands.

Both things are true. The Global Capability Centre wave is real — Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Gurgaon are hiring for FP&A, controllership, treasury, transfer pricing at scale. But they're picky: they want people who can do analysis plus communicate with global stakeholders, not just close books. The demand is real but concentrated in skilled roles.
